Our company was created in 2005 in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Derrek Wilson started doing smaller excavation projects throughout Michigan. In 2008 Derrek decided to grow the business and open a logging division. With the economy tanking and timber prices sliding, changes were needed to keep the company doors open. In 2010 the decision was made to head to the boom taking place in North Dakota. Within a few years DW Excavating was doing multimillion dollar subdivision projects. In 2014 DWE started its foray into Public Works and General Contracting, which is today our Core Focus. Ownership changes were made in 2015, with Derrek retaining majority ownership. After five successful years of business in North Dakota, we looked west for more business opportunities, opening a division in Washington. The majority of our business is now conducted in Eastern Washington with a focus on the greater Spokane area.
